Goals and objectives: Raising awareness on protection of ecological environment, hygiene and natural resources.(Tam Giang lagoon resources)

ESD programs/ projects/activities

Activities: Organize Environmental contest; distribute leaflets, posters; put up panels and plant shade trees at schools

Objectives:

  • Raising awareness of pupils & teachers about (i) hygiene, (ii) the importance and relation between environment and human life (health, livelihoods..), (iii) role and responsibility of individuals and schools in the protection of ecological environment and resource management.
  • Teaching desirable environmental ethics and action through school activities

Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied:

  • Competition (examination test, role plays, fashion shows, eloquences.) among schools, groups of pupil on knowledge of environmental protection, on how to   better participate and protect the ecological environment and Tam Giang lagoon resources management.
  • Distribute leaflets and posters (hygiene, ecological environment and locally resource management)
  • Put up panels of similarly above contents, and
  • Plant shade trees at schools

Outputs and final outcomes of the ESD activities.
  • 3,010 pupils of 4 secondary schools located along Tam Giang lagoon participate in the envionmental contest.
  • 6,340 pupils of primary and secondary schools in 4 communes locating along Tam Giang lagoon get access to leaflets on hygiene, protection of ecological environment and resource management.
  • Panels (of similar contents as above) are put up at 5 secondary schools
  • 150 Posters of similar contents are distributed to all schools in the district.
  • Shade trees are planted at kindergarten and primary school in Quang Phuoc commune.

1.Community Development Projects in Quang Phuoc and Quang An communes, Quang Dien district, ThuaThien-Hue province.

2.Community-based natural resource management project in Huong Phong commune, Huong Tra district, ThuaThien-Hue province.

3.Advocacy Project on delagating fishing rights to fishing associations in Phong Dien district, Thuathien-Hue province.

Goals and objectives: To improve the living conditions for vulnerable and marginalized groups in Tam Giang Lagoon through better and more sustainable livelihoods and an improved natural resource management

ESD programs/ projects/activities

Project Component: Livelihoods diversification and Community based natural resource management

Objectives:

  • Raise awareness for community (fishers, aquaculturists, farmers) of the severe pollution of lagoon environment and the depletion of Tam Giang lagoon resources caused by human activities. (Over-exploitation such as intensive shrimp production, destructive fishings; residues of agricultural chemicals, pesticides and wastes from residental areas).
  • Organize the community into associations (fishing associations, Self help groups, and Interest groups), build their capacity and involve them in public activities  (i) to improve the problems related to sustainable livelihoods, (ii) to better the natural resources management, (iii)to improve living standards of villagers (health, living and working conditions)
  • Facilitate participatory technology development through building and testing policulture patterms to improve sustainability and promote aquaculture management.
  • Promotion of integrated aquaculture (shrimp, crab, fish) to reduce pollution and pressure on lagoon as well.
  • Advocate of delegating Rights to management of water surface to local fishing associations in Phong Dien district,
  • Rearrange fishing corrals, aquaculture and natural fishing areas in lagoon.
  • Improve Rights and trigger responsibilites of villagers towards community-social affairs

Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied:

  • Apply the Action-based education program, WIND method in (Work improvement for Neighborhood Development methodology) improvement of health conditions, working conditions and living conditions for villagers through selected suitable models (on septic tank-toilet, dust-hole, medicine box, cupboard for pesticides, pigsty, garden fence, bathroom, and various home appliances)
  • Participatory training workshop, lectures (technical training, gender training, community development, Emergency preparedness and disaster prevention and mitigation, etc.)
  • Village sanitation campaign to tidy up, remove solid wastes from village roads, canals & treatment; to purge canal water by EM produce and reduce fishing corrals in the canal,etc.
  • Compile & publicize village sanitation regulation,
  • Establish village environment fund,
  • Support the village environmental group in their activities,
  • Support building biogas systems and household septic tanks to minimize waste water source drained into canals and lagoon,
  • Panels, media, leaflets,
  • Study trips,
  • Lagoon zoning and replanning (Including the rearrangement of fishing corrals, shrimp ponds and areas for natural fishing)
  • Periodical meetings of organizations (fishing associations, groups)..

  • Around 500 households in three districts participate in all the collective activities on envionmental protection, livelihood improvement and natural resource management.
  • 1,400 leaftlets on environmental protection and legal regulations regarding fishery resource maangement are distributed to households & members of local fishing associations and relevant government staff in 3 districts.
  • Panels on environmental protection, resource management and promotion of integrated aquaculture are put up in project villages in the above 3 communes.
  • Thousands of shade trees are planted around villages, residental areas to better the living environment of the villages and minimize disaster consequences.

Goals and objectives: To establish open, sustainable, well driven football structures and clubs for children ages 6-15 years (girls and boys) and to develop their life skills to cope with daily life through football activities.

ESD programs/ projects/activities Name: Life skill component

Objectives: To raise awareness and develop life skills for the people participating in the project, and reduce stigma and discrimination through football activities

Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied:

  • Develop training materials on football for all and life skills
  • Organize HIV/AIDS contests
  • Movement games to convey 3 messages of life skills
  • Integrate life skill education in football training every week for clubs and in football tournaments at district, provincial, national, international levels.
