  • Sustainable unilization of non-timber forest products in Khang Ninh Commune, BaBe District, Bac Kan Province (Phase 1)
  • Non-timber Forest  Products sub-sector support project in Son Dong field site. Bac Giang province (Phase 2)

Goals and objectives:

Phase 1: Biodiversity and forest conservation through the promotion of ecologically sustainable and economically viable use of NTFPs

Phase 2: To strengthen the capacity of research and management institutions in Vietnam for supporting the ecologically sustainable and equitable use of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) that contribute to: biodiversity conservation, improved livelihoods of poor people resident in forest areas and national economic development from forests.

Objectives: Strengthening national NTFP planning, research, action and information service Biodiversity and forest conservation of NTFPs

Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied:

  • Project adopts the strategic approach of Action Learning. The Experiences and Knowledge of each issue were collected through by Action in the fields.
  • Once more approach menthod is Participatory. All actions we have to call opinion contribution  from many sides which be concerned.
  • We transferred existing methods for sustainable NTFP development to practitioners and training institutions, demonstration and pilot sides also enhancing project effectiveness and sustainability through propaganda.

General information of the project and program which have ESD related activities: Name: Establishment of an eco – village on the barren land area of Tong Chu 1 Village, Coc San district, Lao Cai province

Goals and objectives: Establishment of ecological balance on the barren hilly and mountainous areas

  • Strengthening the capacity of local farmers on appropriate and sustainable utilization of hilly land and home gardens to improve their living condition
  • Raising public awareness of local people on forest protection, forest planting and daily life environmental protection.
  • Strengthening capacity of Eco – Eco staff and local cadres who participate in implementing project activities.

  • 50 Models on hilly ecological gardens are established at village (20 models in the first year, 20 models in the 2nd year, 10 models in the 3rd year).
  • Establishment of 10 demonstration models at village for farmers’ visiting and learning purposes.
  • Public awareness of local people is improved (through the implementation of local environmental protection activities, local people paying more concerns on their daily life environment, analysis the feedback from the questionnaire on public awareness with regards to environment sent out prior and after the project implementation dates)
  • Two Eco – Eco staff participating  in training courses on project management issues. These Eco – Eco staff also participate in training courses on improving accessing capacity to local communities as well as on improving English language skills.
  • Three local cadres participation in  training courses on project planning and implementation as well as on SALT.
