General information of the project and program which have ESD related activities: Name: Organic vegetable production for poverty alleviation and environmental protection, Soc Son District, Hanoi                             

Goals and objectives: To raise the incomes  of poor farmers in Soc Son district, improve environment and promote sustainable development.

ESD programs/ projects/activities  Name: Excursion trips for kids of kindergarden schools to field school Objectives:

 

Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied:

 

With the children of kinder garten schools:

  • Organise field trips and school based activities where the children learn about sustainable agriculture: knowledge about vegetables, where food comes from, how the organic farming is better for the environment, soil, why soil is important and why the organic farming is better for the soil.
  • Promoting interaction between children from rural and urban areas.

With parents and teachers:

  • Explain why organic farming is important
  • Show how organic farming helps to promote environmental sustainablity and empower the farmers to take themselves out of poverty.
  • Linkage to health implications for consumers and farmers
  • Encourage the linkage ng, how the organic farming is
  • Increase participation and feedback
  • Combination of educational methods such as presentations, field trips and the Consumer Supported Agriculture scheme provides the insight into differences in living standard between consumers and producers.

With the farmers:

  • Promote the organic farming techniques.
  • Pilot to show that farmers can implement organic methods while improving their standard of living; encompassing health, environmental and economic aspects.
  • Increase the farmers’ confidence in the sustainability of organic vegetable farming, relating to their income as well as natural resource management.
  • PGS promotes their responsibility to consumers.
  • Increase the probability of farmers retaining their land for agricultural purposes, under the increased stress of urbanization.

Goals and objectives: To promote the general public in Hanoi to increase the use of green transport

With the student groups:

Introducing the concept of green transport, explaining the relationship with Climate change and environment consequences. The students also start their own investigation of the transportation issue surrounding their campus, and the current use of green transport. Student groups started organising the activites to raise awareness of green transport among their peers and community
