have ESD related activities:

Name: Improved Health and Hygiene Promotion for Ethnic Minority Groups in Muong Te district, Lai Chau province of  Vietnam

Goals: To improve the quality of life for ethnic minority people and other disadvantaged groups in Muong Te district by increasing the access to and the quality of the health service.

Specifically, the project has 2 objectives as follows:

Objective 1: Improved access to and quality of health service provided at communal clinics and district hospital

Objective 2:

a) Increased knowledge and practice of hygiene behavior for kindergarten, primary, and junior secondary students and village communities by 2010;

b) Improved partner capacity in project implementation and management by 2010.

ESD programs/ projects/activities

Name: Water supply and school toilets/household latrine construction and IEC activities

Objectives:

  • To create favorable conditions for students and villagers to practice personal hygiene and environmental sanitation in their schools and at home
  • To raise awareness of sanitation and protection of water sources amongst students at different levels and villagers
  • To increase students and villagers participation IEC activities focusing on personal hygiene and environmental sanitation in their schools and communities

Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied:

  • Develop IEC Action Plan targeting school teachers and students and also communities
  • Set up and support for operation of IEC facilitator teams usually consisting of village head, village health worker and women union’s cadre in project villages
  • Develop training manuals and deliver TOT training for project partners and IEC facilitators at villages
  • Produce IEC materials and organize relevant IEC activities mobilizing participation of students, teachers and villagers
  • Promote development of friendly school libraries
  • Promote construction and use of latrines at households in project villages
  • Support for construction of water supply and sanitation facilities at project schools

  • IEC facilitator teams organize training to villagers monthly
  • Water supply and sanitation facilities are built in schools that meet all necessary conditions
  • Friendly libraries are developed in schools that meet all necessary conditions
  • The IEC Action Plan is properly followed
  • IEC materials are delivered to all target recipients
  • Project partners are capable to implement project, particularly organization of IEC activities
