Name: - Women’s Development Group (WDG) - Commune Planning and Implementation - Community Development Network Objectives: 1). Women in the program area, including poor Khmer women, have knowledge and access to services and participate actively in community development processes, 2). Communities, the Women’s Union, NGOs, and local authorities have the capacity to plan and implement participatory community development activities in areas with a large Khmer population, 3). An institutional structure exists for exchange and dissemination of experiences from poverty reduction in communities with a large Khmer population Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied: - Train women in health & hygiene issues, business planning and production skills - Carry out action research and baseline studies on community development issues and formulate a strategy for greater gender awareness - Carry out IEC campaigns related to health & hygiene, clean water& sanitation, local energy solutions,… - Train and support Village Health Volunteers and facilitative skills for facilitators and group leaders. - Train staff and provide basic equipment - Formulate and implement capacity building plan for Women Unions on participatory community development. - Train relevant officials of local authorities on “Grassroots’ Democracy” and how to get the participation of community, including gender sensitization. - Establish feedback systems from Women’s Development Groups and villages, and document lessons learned, sharing lessons from PACODE and other projects through Community Development Network - Public awareness of Khmer poverty problems raised and present findings and recommendations to policy target groups - Stakeholders: The poor people in areas with large Khmer population in An Giang and Soc Trang including: women in WDGs, women, men and children with new water and sanitation facilities, - Women Union staff, Village Health Volunteers, Women Union Group Facilitators, Local authorities all levels from district to commune, CDN members, provincial leaders and other target audience.

- WDGs established and functioning - Women’s awareness of domestic and environmental health issues increased - Positive behaviors on clean water and sanitation begin to be implemented by WDG’s poor members. - WU capacity to establish and support well functioning WDGs increased - CPTs and CBDs capacity to prepare and progress participatory village and commune plans increased - Commune and district officials ’ understanding and support of participatory planning processes increased - Community awareness of safe and efficient energy options increased and applied. - Community knowledge and skills in environmental improvement increased - A model on composting and waste management based on community established and functioned in area with a large Khmer population - Knowledge and skills of Village Health Volunteers and commune health workers increased. - Community Development Network established and in operation effectively |
