Name:
Project 1:
- Enhance the implementation of Grassroots Democracy Ordinance to promote the rights of ethnic people in Van Quan and Chi Lang districts, Lang Son province
Project 2:
- Community-based flash-flood control and prevention, and adaptation to climate change in Ha Giang province
- Vietnamese Thai network on Indigenous Knowledge – VTIK
Goals and objectives:
1. To contribute to the equal human dignity for ethnic minority people in Lang Son province
Objectives:
- Promoting the implemention of Grassroots Democracy Ordinance in Van Quan and Chi lang districts
- Promoting the access to forest land for ethnic minorities in Van Quan and Chi lang districts
- Policy advocating relating to GDO implementation and ethnic minorities issues to National Assembly
- Strengthening indigenous networks at both national and regional levels.
2. To initiate legislation and action to combat the causes and effects of climate change in Ha Giang Province
Objectives:
- Local ethnic minority communities will pilot a participatory community-based flood and land-slide control and prevention model.
- Households, especially the poor in the resettlement from flash-floods and land-slide danger areas will develop more resilient livelihood activities to adapt to climate change.
- Ha Giang Province’s leaders and key agencies including Committee of Floods and Storm Control, Department of Planning and Investment and Department of Environment, Natural Resources will be supported in developing their Action Plan of climate change adaptation and mitigation.
3. To conserve, revitalize and promote the Thai indigenous knowledge (VTIK goals). The network has its members in seven provinces where the Thai inhabited: Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh,, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An,
Objectives:
- Unify 8 Thai writing systems into one called Vietnamese Thai script
- Drafting general Thai writing system for Thai-Vietnamese people.
- Drafting teaching material on Vietnamese Thai scipt
- Bring Thai language into schools in areas Thai people living
- Compiling dictionary.
- Preserving ancient Thai language, researching and applying for life.
- Training good and devoted teaching staff
- Conservation of sacred forest using indigenous knowledge.
