General information of the project and program which have ESD related activities Name: Capacity Building in Biodiversity Conservation: Educational Resources and Active Teaching Methods

Goals and objectives:. Using and adapting comprehensive modules developed by the Network of Conservation Educators and Practitioners (NCEP) at the American Museum of Natural History, this project aims to provide university students and conservation practitioners with necessary knowledge and skills to address practical conservation problems in Vietnam. It also seeks to bridge the gap between applied conservation and academic training programs

ESD programs/ projects/activities Name: A workshop was held in May 12, 2008 entitled “Preparing Students for the Conservation Challenges of the Future: Educational Resources and Active Teaching Methods”

Objectives:

  • Introduce NCEP project and related resources in conservation education to a diverse group of conservation practitioners and educators in Vietnam
  • Use NCEP as a means of exploring and discussing training needs in biodiversity conservation

Describe educational and learning methods/tools applied:

  • Introduce active teaching and learning methods in biodiversity conservation
  • Introduce multi-component educational modules with exercises to better communicate content to participants
  • Evaluate current capacity and training needs in biodiversity conservation

Stakeholders: NGOs, academic institutions, conservation practitioners such as protected area staff and FPD staff, and decision makers in Vietnam
